Grooming your Pekingese

How to groom a Pekingese:

Grooming a Pekingese can be a time-consuming but rewarding experience. With their long, luxurious coats, Pekingese dogs require frequent brushing and grooming to maintain their beautiful appearance. In this guide, we'll take you through the step on how to groom a Pekingese, from brushing to bathing to trimming, so you can keep your furry friend looking their best.

1: Brushing

The first step in grooming a Pekingese is brushing. Pekingese dogs have long, double-layered coats that can easily become tangled and matted, so it's important to brush them regularly to keep their fur in good condition. You'll need a good quality brush, such as a slicker brush or a pin brush, to help untangle their fur.

Start by brushing your Pekingese's coat from the base of the hair up to the tips, making sure to get any knots or tangles out along the way. Be gentle when brushing around sensitive areas, such as their face and ears. If your Pekingese has any mats or tangles that won't come out with brushing, use a pair of scissors to carefully trim them away.

2: Bathing

Pekingese dogs don't need to be bathed too frequently, as too much bathing can strip their coat of their natural oils. However, when it is time for a bath, you'll want to make sure you use a dog-specific shampoo that's gentle on their skin.

Fill up a bathtub or basin with warm water, and wet your Pekingese coat thoroughly. Apply a small amount of shampoo to their coat and lather it up, being careful not to get any in their eyes or ears. Rinse their coat thoroughly, making sure to get all the shampoo out.

3: Drying

After bathing, you'll want to dry your Pekingese coat thoroughly. Use a clean towel to gently pat them dry, being careful not to rub their fur too hard. You can also use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to speed up the drying process, but be sure to keep the dryer moving to avoid overheating your Pekingese.

4: Trimming

While Pekingese dogs have long, flowing coats, their fur can get too long and become a tripping hazard. It's important to trim their fur regularly to keep it at a manageable length. Use a pair of scissors or clippers to carefully trim their fur, being sure to leave it long enough to keep them warm.

5: Nail Clipping

Pekingese dogs also require regular nail trimming to keep their nails at a safe length. Use a pair of dog-specific nail clippers to carefully clip their nails, being sure not to cut too close to the quick (the pink part of the nail).

By following these grooming tips, you'll be able to keep your Pekingese looking and feeling their best. Remember to be gentle and patient when grooming your furry friend, and always seek professional advice if you have any concerns.
